I have been nominated for the upcoming EATCS Council elections. I am really honored by this nomination, as I owe very much to the European theoretical computer science community: I am an EATCS Fellow and I have been previously in the EATCS Council (2006-2013).
If elected, I would be really happy to serve again in the association.
I believe that EATCS is a strong association and I see many benefits from being an EATCS member. At the same time, I see also few areas with opportunities for improvement, including the following:
-
We should aim at further stimulating the exchange of scientific views, ideas and flow of information across different areas of theoretical computer science (and computer science at large), and at promoting closer collaborations with related associations.
-
Being also very active in technology transfer, I would like to encourage more cooperation between theoretical computer scientists and practitioners and, more generally, to better promote the impact and visibility of our research results outside the TCS community.
-
Research funding is a well known issue for theoreticians. EATCS is in a privileged position to improve the visibility of TCS research towards European funding agencies and to help the TCS community in its efforts to apply for research grants.
-
EATCS is present in several social medias (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+) but with a very limited number of followers. Perhaps EATCS could better exploit social media to encourage more open discussions and to spread more information relevant to its members and to the TCS community at large. This could also improve substantially the visibility of EATCS.
